Register today for the seventeenth TACNY Celebration of Technology Awards Banquet, presented by the Technology Alliance of Central NY and the Technical Societies Council, as we honor the following award winners:

 

  • TECHNOLOGIST OF THE YEAR: Don McPherson (A resident of Central New York who has made recent outstanding contributions to advances and improvements in a technological field, not limited to engineering.)
  • YOUNG TECHNOLOGIST OF THE YEAR: Matt Nickels (A resident of Central New York, 35 years old or less, who has made recent outstanding contributions to advances and improvements in a technological field, not limited to engineering.)
  • TECHNOLOGY COMPANY OF THE YEAR: Applied Biorefinery Sciences LLC (A Central New York technology company that has made recent outstanding contributions to new or innovative products, processing technologies, or productivity leading to enhanced business.)
  • TECHNOLOGY PROJECT OF THE YEAR: Syracuse University Gravitational Wave Group (A current outstanding technological project, invention or process designed, invented or constructed in Central New York.)
  • COLLEGE TECHNOLOGY EDUCATOR OF THE YEAR: Dr. Shikha Nangia (An educator who has made outstanding contributions in Technology Education at the college level in Central New York.)
  • SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY OUTREACH - Individual: Kay Scott (A resident of Central New York who has increased interest in science or technology or expanded opportunities for people with limited access to science or technology.)
  • SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY OUTREACH - Organization: ASHRAE (An organization in Central New York that has increased interest in science or technology or expanded opportunities for people with limited access to science or technology.)
  • LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT: Larry Leatherman

  • Quarter page (3.62 inches wide by 5 inches high) ad: $100 (color add $50)
  • Exhibit table (12' by 5' exhibit space with table, chairs, tablecloth, and utilities): $100 (waived for non-profits and educational institutions). Reservations for exhibit space will be accepted through FRIDAY March 18, 2016. 

Keynote speaker:
Sean O’Keefe is University Professor at Syracuse University, the Howard G. and S. Louise Phanstiel Chair in Strategic Management and Leadership at the Maxwell School and also serves as Distinguished Senior Advisor at the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), a Washington based think tank in partnership with Maxwell. Mr. O'Keefe will speak on "Advancing Technology for Space Exploration: Propulsion and human elements to extend our reach into space."

Mr. O'Keefe, is the 17th person in Syracuse University history to be granted the title of University Professor.  A longtime public administrator, national security expert and aerospace industry executive, he has served in several top leadership positions in the U.S. government, higher education and industry.  He has been associated with Syracuse University for many years beginning as a graduate student, as a teacher, advisory board chairman, and advocate.

O'Keefe is the former chairman of the board and chief executive officer of Airbus Group Inc. Immediately prior to joining Airbus, O'Keefe served as a vice president of the General Electric Company following his service as chancellor of Louisiana State University.  On four separate occasions, O'Keefe served as a presidential appointee. Prior to leading LSU, he was administrator of NASA. Earlier, he was deputy assistant to the president and deputy director of the Office of Management and Budget at the White House. He also served as secretary of the Navy, following service as comptroller and CFO of the Defense Department.  He began his career after graduate studies at Maxwell as a member of the inaugural class of the Presidential Management Intern program, and later joined the US Senate Appropriations Committee staff.  Between public service appointments, O'Keefe has held faculty posts at LSU, Penn State University and the Maxwell School, where he served as director of the National Security Studies Program and as Louis A. Bantle Chair of Business and Government.

In 1993, President George H.W. Bush and Secretary Cheney presented O'Keefe the Distinguished Public Service Award. He was the 1999 faculty recipient of the Syracuse University Chancellor's Award for Public Service; recipient of the Department of Navy's Public Service Award in December 2000;  the Syracuse University George Arents Award for Public Service and is the recipient of five honorary doctorate degrees.
