The Technology Alliance of Central New York (TACNY) is looking for outstanding teachers of mathematics, science, and Technology Education in Central New York. Five teachers will be selected to receive $500 checks and be recognized at a banquet in the spring. Distinctive plaques will be presented to the teachers and their school districts. To be eligible, the teachers must serve students residing in the five counties of Cayuga, Cortland, Madison, Onondaga, and Oswego. Previous recipients of the award are ineligible for five years following the year in which they received the award. Any teacher who received the award in 20002001 or more recently, is not eligible to be nominated this year.
Anyone may nominate a teacher by visiting the home page of TACNY at www.TACNY.org, and clicking on the link to the Teacher Awards Program. Nomination forms may be downloaded in PDF, printed, and submitted by US mail. Nomination forms may also be requested by calling Vernon Tryon, Teacher Awards Committee chairperson, at 315-343-9692. Nominations must be received by Monday, October 10, 2005.
Over the past seventeen years, 84 teachers have been honored with the award. TACNY is an organization of over 30 technical, scientific, and educational associations. They all seek to promote the responsible advancement of technology in Central New York State. Throughout its history, TACNY has conducted many programs and activities designed to advance technology and people's understanding of it. It co-founded the Discovery Center, now the Milton J. Rubenstein Museum of Science & Technology; sponsors the annual John Edson Sweet Lecture Series; contributes to local science fairs; and conducts the annual Celebration of Technology.
