January’s Green Bag Lunch will be devoted to organizing a proposed CNY Sustainability Coalition, composed of organizations interested in advocating for social, environmental and economic justice surrounding the Micron project.

In July, 2023, with the Micron project’s environmental review looming, several CNY organizations began working together in order to interact with the Micron project from a position of greater strength than each of us alone might be able to muster. Subsequently we collaborated to comment on the draft scope for the DEIS. Since working together on critical environmental, economic and social justice issues is considered, by experts in the field of community organizing and activism, to be necessary for success, it has been the intention of the participating organizations to create a framework for continuing the collaboration. But what should that framework look like?

At January’s GBL we will hold a facilitated discussion to help determine how best to organize the coalition for future action. We will share our ideas as well as solicit input from audience members on such topics as: organizational structure, principles, goals, strategies, and topics requiring joint action. Please join us for a ground floor discussion of how we can work together, and turn silos into action.
